Adhesions that Cause Bowel Obstructions

Emergency bowel repair is the 2nd most common emergency surgery in the USA (JAMA Surgery). Patients quickly learn that the surgery designed to save their life can cause their next obstruction. Clear Passage® addresses adhesions with a proprietary technique that has saved the lives of people with recurrent bowel obstruction.

Proof of Effectiveness

Clear Passage® therapy stopped recurring obstructions by 15 times the norm in patients with repeat bowel obstructions (World Journal of Gastroenterology). A non-surgical therapy that feels like a deep massage has reduced or eliminated repeat bowel obstructions in hundreds of patients with this condition. Surgeons from Harvard, Stanford, and other medical schools authored two studies after seeing the therapy’s benefit in their patients. The therapy offers hope to people wanting to avoid another hospitalization, obstruction, or surgery.

Unique in the world, this highly researched, well-documented therapy is unlike any other treatment. Our non-surgical techniques focus on reducing or eliminating adhesions by dissolving internal bonds (crosslinks) that bind collagen fibers together, at the very core of adhesions. “It feels like we are pulling out the run in a three-dimensional sweater,” says Belinda Wurn, the physical therapist who developed the work with her husband Larry, a massage therapist.

Often feeling like a deep, site-specific massage, Clear Passage® therapy is performed without medications or surgery. Based on published results, patients receive 20 hours of therapy in two-hour sessions (e.g., four hours a day Monday through Friday.) While clearing your abdomen and pelvis of adhesions, we will inform you about your specific condition, educate you about adhesions and obstructions, and teach you ways to prevent new adhesions once you return home. Our goal is for you to leave our clinic cleared of obstructions and with the knowledge and tools to stay clear of adhesions and obstructions for the rest of your life. After Clear Passage® therapy, most patients lose their fear of having another hospitalization, NG-tube, or obstruction – forever.

Do I Qualify for Therapy?

Abdominal and pelvic organs are delicate and are the home to a vast number of conditions and processes. Including surgery to ‘explore’ or ‘repair’ them, your condition and environment can change over time. Adhesions tend to remain or grow over time, so earlier lifetime events can affect your present body. With a strength of 2000 pounds per square inch (140 Kg per cm2), adhesions from the past can act like internal glue or straitjackets, binding internal structures and causing pain or dysfunction.

We don’t want to waste your time or money, and we don’t want to chance harming you. For these reasons, we will screen your history and present condition before we can accept you as a patient.

Our Screening Process

To understand your goals and the present state of your body, we ask you to complete a Medical History Form for us to review. This form asks you to share your lifetime healing events with us. Do your best to include a full lifetime history of your falls, surgeries, injuries, and infections. We review your history and may call you if we have questions. We will share our findings with you, generally within three business days.

Common Symptoms

  •  Severe pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal pain or cramping
  • Abdominal bloating or swelling
  • Constipation or inability to pass gas
  • Loss of appetite
  • Abdominal tenderness
  • Distension (visibly enlarged abdomen)
  • Stringy stool*

*One of the lesser-known indicators of an imminent bowel blockage is the appearance of a pencil-thin stool. This symptom often suggests a partial obstruction, allowing only a narrow passage for stool to pass.

“I want to express my gratitude to Clear Passage® Therapies for what you were able to do for me. The wonderful work you perform deserves recognition. I am a woman who has had four surgeries. For me, the surgery caused adhesions that became extremely painful. If it were not for Clear Passage® Physical Therapy, I would be contemplating another surgery for obstruction in my bowel caused by adhesions. I am hopeful that one day the medical doctors will prescribe this therapy to all patients who suffer from adhesions.”

“I really don’t feel capable of adequately expressing my admiration and gratitude for Clear Passage®. From every aspect, Clear Passage® fulfills its mission of care, compassion, and successful treatment beyond any of my hopes. Without exception, the wonderful people who staff this beautiful, relaxed environment encourage trust and confidence. I would hope that all those faced with a disorder treated at Clear Passage® could be aware and avail themselves of the amazing restorative experience I did. My life has been returned to me.”

“By the time I found Clear Passage®, my health was plummeting. At my initial evaluation, my therapist told me there was very little mobility in my abdominal organs. She was also concerned that I was becoming adhered in the muscles and support structures on the front of my body.
I attended treatment and found that my pain had reduced markedly. I stopped experiencing pain in my bowels, neck, and back. Things in life that most people take for granted, but that had been denied to me for so long, slowly began to return. I can still remember the first day I was finally able to have a bowel movement without pain or laxatives, and the first time I was finally able to eat without pain. It was amazing.”
