Causes of Crohn’s disease
To manage active inflammation and the disease process, you should consult your physician. Clear Passage can help with strictures or obstructions caused by adhesions. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory condition of the digestive tract. It’s part of a group of conditions known as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). While the exact cause isn’t fully understood, research suggests it develops from a combination of immune, genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that trigger ongoing inflammation.
In many people, the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the digestive tract as if fighting an infection, creating an overactive response that leads to swelling, ulcers, and tissue damage; infections or gut bacteria imbalances may further aggravate this process. An imbalance in the gut microbiome- when harmful bacteria increase and beneficial bacteria decrease- can also contribute to inflammation and poor healing. Genetics plays a significant role as well, with Crohn’s disease often running in families and genes like NOD2/CARD15 associated with increased risk; having a close relative with Crohn’s raises a person’s likelihood of developing it by 5-10 times. Environmental triggers such as high-fat or processed diets, smoking, stress, living in industrialized regions, or using certain medications like NSAIDs may spark or worsen flare-ups, especially in those who are genetically predisposed.
Additional contributors include autoimmune tendencies and previous infections, which may cause the immune system to react abnormally and perpetuate chronic inflammation.
Symptoms of Crohn’s disease
The symptoms of Crohn’s disease can vary from person to person and may range from mild to severe. Symptoms can include one or more of the following:
- Abdominal pain and cramping
- Persistent diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Unintended weight loss
- Loss of appetite
- Fever
- Bloating
- Intestinal strictures
- Fistulas
- Bowel obstruction
Treatment for Strictures caused by Crohn’s Disease
Adhesions are internal scars that often form in and adjacent to the digestive tract as the body’s response to chronic or recurrent inflammation. The glue-like bonds they create can exacerbate symptoms, creating pain and worsening digestive problems.
Our focus is to decrease internal adhesions manually. To avoid the surgery that can cause more adhesions, we use our hands to pull apart adhesive bonds, like pulling out the run in a three-dimensional sweater. Studies indicate that attending CP therapy can improve the uptake of nutrients and return the body to a prior state of improved mobility and function. As the glue-like bonds of intestinal adhesions are released, pain and digestive problems can be greatly relieved, returning patients to a much higher quality of life.
If you have Crohn’s disease, we want to first examine your medical records. Our experience has shown us that patients should not be treated when they are in an active flare-up, indicated by certain markers in their blood. We may ask you to undergo a recent blood test, so we can be sure that the timing of therapy is optimum for you.
If you are accepted for Clear Passage® therapy, we will work to decrease and eliminate adhesions throughout your digestive tract, abdomen, and pelvis. We will also instruct you about adhesions, show you ways to avoid them, and mitigate their effects. We will provide you with a home maintenance program to help you stay in good health and avoid future surgeries.
